About Katherine

The images on this website reflect my real passion and interest in the natural environment. I really respond to Woodland themes and I love painting wildflowers. After completing my Diploma with The Society of Botanical Artists my Illustrations focused even more on plants and habitats. I like painting insects and particularly butterflies which feature a lot in my recent work. I like to include insects that can be found in a particular environment as they add interest and a depth of understanding to a piece.
I have found that I really enjoy working in watercolours and I teach watercolours in Adult Education. I have found in my own work that I really enjoy combining pencil and watercolour and my illustrations are often very delicate in tone . I like working in this way as it reflects the fragility of the environments that I am depicting.

Teaching

Katherine has a warm and friendly approach. She encourages learners to explore watercolours with demonstrations and helpful advice, which supports them on their learning journey with techniques such as wet-on-wet. She enjoys working with learners as they experience the blending of pigments through glazes and washes and encourages them to complete pieces that build confidence in their work.
